It all began in 1998, when God in His love implanted this vision in the heart of the vision bearer, Bro. Innocent Nwawuike. That year was declared the year of the Holy Spirit by the church and a novena was directed towards that. According to him, “During this novena, as I fasted and prayed, I had an experience about the Holy Eucharist that changed my life”.
This experience left in him a burning fire and love for the Eucharist and a deep desire to know God intimately and to live out truly the teachings of our Lord. It also left in him the undying (ever living) desire to share the Good News of God with people. The Holy Mass became a living reality to Him as well as devotion to the Holy Eucharist and deep appreciation of the Word of God. It was in this process that the vision of Mirror of Liberty Ministry was conceived. The vision gave birth to the Secondary School Outreach in the year, 2005 through the instrumentality of Rev. Fr. Donald Anyagwa, the then chaplain of Diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal and Bro Innocent Ezeibekwe, the then Diocesan chairman of Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Since then, the outreach has been going on and has a network of about six schools with charismatic group firmly established in two schools; Government College and Federal Government Girl's College.
The vision took a different dimension in the year 2008 when some Priests helped in building the ministry into a team. Infact, the working out of the document of the ministry and the direction for the creation of the team was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Donald Anyagwa. But it is worthy of mention
that Rev. Fr. Dr. Clement Uche gave birth the very first outreach undertaken by Mirror of Liberty Ministry in his parish. This suggests that Mirror of Liberty Ministry took a step further and as its name goes became more interested in the destiny of many. Mirror of Liberty Ministry is not a dream outside the Catholic Church. It is one that was given birth to by the activities of the church as aforementioned. Thus, the Ministry has the approval
and blessing of the local ordinary of the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Dr. Solomon Amatu. Rev. Fr. Dr. Clement Uche was again instrumental to this success, thereby, becoming its first chaplain.
We must not fail to add that Rev. Fr. Dr. Casimir Nzeh as freely given his God-given wisdom to the success of the ministry. The ministry has been conducting outreaches since then. These include Rural outreaches; Holy Rosary, Umuehie, St Anthony, Umunkwo, St Anthony Umuozu, St Joseph, Umualumaku, St Michael Ugirinna, St Benedict Amaraku, Madonna Parish, Umukabia and Our Lady of Lourdes Umuduruegbeaguru. The ministry has also carried out prayer conferences at St Mary’s Cathedral, Okigwe and Holy Rosary Parish, Anara. Several village and family prayers have also been conducted. All these are geared towards one single purpose, to lead the people into their inheritance in Christ Jesus.
The ministry has conducted retreats for Parishes both in and outside her Dioceses. Through the activities of the ministry, a catholic community was started under St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Akwa Ibom State.
The vision is shared by more than 25 graduates and undergraduates, who are serving as workers in the ministry and many more are coming. Several other Catholic Priests have continued to water this vision among who are Rev. Fr. Patrick Edet and Rev Fr. Henry U. Alozie. Conclusively, Mirror of Liberty Ministry has come a long way, yet, it is about to begin. This is because it is a mission to the church and the church is universal, it is a global affair. We will definitely get there if all of us whom God has called to this, will ensure to its conclusion.
